Like most Ghanaians I am quite sure Mr.Kofi Thompson's main interest is the welfare of our country but I think he totally misidentified the problem we are all so conserned about.As I see it the problem is not the method the illegal miners use but their whole illegal operation .When shut them down there won't be a need for the government to supply criminal them with a mordern technology.We already have private companies who have obtained legal permit to mine and pay taxes to the government.They may be the ones who could use this technology that you are talking about.When it comes to Galamsey operators,their days are numbered and the NDC Politicians who sold them fake permits are no longer in power to protect them.

I don't think is technology issue when we call in illegal mining in Ghana, is attitude, lawlessness and irresponsible leadership causing a telling hardships on the people and the environment.

But do check the list of toxic chemicals used by all gold miners - including illegal miners. The current situation is intolerable.

If we can ban their use by players in the sector that would make a huge difference all round.

As regards technology, with respect, in the final analysis, where technology originates from is not so important.

For example, it doesn't matter that someone who isn't from Ghana invented the internet does it? At the end of the day, it benefits all of us, wherever in the world we live, does it not?

To be able to mine gold without needing to pollute water bodies with poisonous chemicals would mean the cessation of the continued pollution of soils, streams, rivers and ground water across the nation.

That will be a vast improvement upon the current unacceptable situation.

We must not allow any form of mining to destroy the sources of our people's drinking water supply. Water is life. Literally.

To protect present and future generations of our people we must introduce toxin-free mining to all the different categories of that vital sector of our national economy.

And the sooner that happens the better the chances of our children and their children's children enjoying a sustainable future, will be.

That really matters a lot - for they represent our nation's future. Full stop.

This is nothing but a ploy to yet again swindle our people with this notion of 'Toxin-free mining' crap and all the drum-beating praise by Kofi Thompson of Dr. Albert Jalbout's so called invention. Kofi should seriously consider pitching this to the Mining Multinationals of the world because they will gladly trod along the Arizona desert to get a piece of this action.

Many questions come to mind but perhaps the one that jumps to the fore is: what are the environmental effects of this wonder discovery? We are trying to solve the devastating environmental effects of Galamsey and not make things any worse. But the good news is, Dr. Bawumia is smarter than heeding to such baseless and scientifically unproven suggestions like this.
