Oh no, I was eager to read about the atrocities perpetrated by Hamid's father, only for the writer to embark on a tangential speculation. Not at all sure whether he has been living with the rest of us here in Ghana or has just completed an interplanetary travel and is suffering from a rather serious form of rocket lag. Rawlings, a school dropout, who had never run a corner shop in his entire life, was suddenly in charge of managing the affairs of a whole country. He and his armed 'bugabuga' bandits were responsible for driving out many a good business people into exile, thereby making an already precarious situation even worse. Ghana was on the brink of famine never witnessed before under this man. Don't get me wrong; I liked Rawlings when he came to power but I was too young to understand the ramifications of his so-called revolution. By the way, that wasn't a revolution, it was a serious mismanagement of the affairs of Ghana. According to Rawlings himself there has been more corruption under his own party-led government than the ones he overthrew. Imagine another flight lieutenant and a group of trigger happy soldiers seizing power today and charging every successful business man with corruption and running most of them out of town, trialing and killing Kuffour, Mahama, supreme court judges etc in hurriedly convened kangaroo courts - that was the picture under Rawlings' reign of terror. Today, people like you have the audacity to question why someone has any hatred for Rawlings and the havoc he caused to this country, I don't blame you!
