  John Mahama and many other politicians don't have dual citizenship yet they are the ones that have betrayed Ghana the most, stealing our monies and stashing them away in foreign banks.
  
  The law should distinguish between two kinds of citizens. If you are, an original Ghanaian citizen by birth and you acquire a foreign citizenship, for whatever reason, you shouldn't be presumed to have lost or renounced your original Ghanaian citizenship unless you have put that in writing. One should not be forced to disrobe or strip himself/herself of all benefits that having dual citizenship brings before you can enter parliament or serve as a minister - a situation that is even temporary in nature. Governments can change, you may lose an election or a president can terminate your appointment at any given time. If it is our worry that the individual can do something bad and run away, I am saying that argument is spurious and lame, as all citizens can do the same dual or not. Politicians seek asylum every single time they mess up, e.g. Yahya Jammeh.
  
  On the contrary if somebody is originally a foreign born, is of original foreign nationality, say a Syrian or Nigerian, and you want to serve in Ghana's parliament or government, then you should be asked to give up your foreign nationality. The two are not the same and shouldn't be the same. Archaic law must fall. If this law is not scrapped, a time will come when it would be used against our children born overseas.

  I think the reason why all the successive governments fail to resolve and kick this cane down the road is a combination of jealousy and intimidating/insecurity feeling they have for those in the diaspora.

  The same Ghanaian and its Economy has depended heavily on the same diasporean Ghanaian ( they despise with envy ) especially the ones who have acquired another nationality mostly to help them secure jobs that fit their calibre and qualification.
  We pay so much money to foreign consultants and expatriates and try to implement their advise but made envious laws to prevent Diasporeans who have acquired another nationality and have rich experience through real world exposure to hold any top position in Ghana.
  Who do we think we are fooling? Ourselves and our future generations. Most of the Ghanaian experts and academics who have no serious outside exposure are just not good enough and this cuts across all disciplines and professions in Ghana. We have become a nation of mediocrity and we are not willing to do what most nations do, including the advanced and "civilised" countries to get and bring progress into their society.
  Let's ask ourselves why are we a poor and a near bankrupt nation in the midst of abundant resources? Yes we refuse to use our brains and always prefer to do things upside down and illogical ways. And in the end we have created a society where the extreme mediocre are in top positions, making fatuous policies and ruling the nation into the abyss.

  You and those who think like you do not deserve any better than what Ghana is today. If the advice Ghana did receive in the past and present from foreign experts and expatriate community has been worth a nickel Ghana would be like South Korea and other non-aligned nations that moved on to bigger and better things even as Ghana sells its land and humans for pittens and carry tin cups around the globe begging for scraps.
  The one thing Ghanaians with dual citizenship or foreign citizenship bring to Ghana is the ability to screw up Ghana and run to their first homes when things become unbearable in Ghana or after they've stolen enough funds from the nation state. I challenge you to list names of those expats who have stayed here in Ghana after their stint in government? Furthermore, do you and others stop for a second to ask how those expats who were "making it" in life would throw all that away to come to Ghana and take less than half what they claimed to be making in the diaspora? Almost all the folks who come down to take jobs from a Ghanaian administration come to live better than they ever did in the diaspora; they get to have government provided bungalow, vehicle, free utilities, car/gas allowance even while getting monthly salary, stealing and engaged in bribery and corruption to acquire property in Ghana they could never acquire with all the tea in China they pretend to be making back in their new countries. Simply put there is not a single diasporan or expat who comes to Ghana to take a job from Ghanaians because of their love for Ghana but because most were not making it but mostly to come and steal and live like kings and queens amongst the new kind of fools we have become in Ghana.
  My final question to you and others who lack self confidence and snookered by expats is this: can you point to just one thing Ghana has achieved/attained that could not have been possible without expertise from the expat and worth all the money spent by the nation to acquire? And whatever you do please for heaven's sake do not name the oil deal that was struck with the EO group. It is only the dumb dumb people who think the EO deal is worth the pollution, the lifetime payment to the EO group and the fact that Ghana is presumed to have oil and yet continue import oil based products and gasoline along with dumsor.

  Under no circumstances should a candidate for consideration for a cabinet level position should renounce his foreign acquired citizenship to take the position. If he possesses skills and qualifications that are badly needed, then some concessions should be made to appoint that person. It is unfathomable to think that the government does not trust a dual citizen, solely because he holds allegiance to a foreign country.
