The writer says that "Registered mining operations are those that have been licensed by the State to mine in designated areas (not exceeding 25acres) for 3-5years...."
This is not true. All registered mining licences MUST be RATIFIED BY PARLIAMENT before they can become LEGAL, according to the Constitution.
It is the lack of knowledge of this provision in the Constitution that has caused the confusion which makes many poeople think that "small-scale" mining is legal in Ghana. The Minerals Commission is largely responsible for this confusion, for in order that the staff can collect bribes before they register small-scale mining companies, they fgive the impression to applicants that once the Minerals Commission has approved a licence, the small-scale miners can go ahead and beginot dig for gold.
The Government should investigate what has been going on at the Minerals Commission if it wants seriously to end galamsey, as it has been proclaiming. State institutions are in fact collaborating with the criminals in killing our rivers and streams.
The Ghana Chamber of Mines is also a collaborator, for the large-scake mines are not above buying gold from galamsey operators clandestinely and declaring it as their product from their own mines.Then, the Chibese are also there, preying o the alleged "registered licence holders" for their poart of the operation.
Ghana is so corrupt that President Akufo Addo has to be doubly clever. Otherwise his campaign against galamsey will end with dust on his face.

(What is popularly known as Totooto).With regard to that component irrespective of the type of local tools they use to mine it should be disallowed completely to be able to bring back life to our water bodies in order help to the ordinary Ghanaian access to the creatures such as fish, crab, lobster etc.

1. Require prospective miners/companies to be licensed (really costly one)
2. Submit survey and certification of the condition of the land, area, water bodies, vegetation etc before operation begins.
3. Pay for bond or insurance or both that will cover restoration of the land to what it was before operations started.
4. All agreement and documentation must be filed with a government body concerned only with mining.
5. Quarterly bans certified inspection of the facility at operator's expense
Foreigners who engage in these enterprises must be cleared of a liabilities before being allotted to leave the country.
If the fees are high enough and the requirement to restore land to originAl condition is enforced, galaxy will die the death it deserves. If Nana succeeds only in terminating this cancer permanently he would have done a lot.
