  I have thought about this for years, at times to my self and some times at a discussion with some progressive Muslims here in the United States. The roots course of poverty, ignorant conflicts and diseases in our Muslim communities is the results of this Conservative teachings from some not all of our orthodox Muslim scholars who want to take us back to the old days. Most of this Scholars are the receipient of the so-called Saudi Scholarship to the Kingdom of Saudi-Arabia. Let me asked one question and I would like some one with answer to tell me. How come when yu look at the enrollment of the Islamic University in Saudi Arabia, ninety five percent of the students are foreigners from third world countries? Now we have a very influential King talking about it. Please we Muslims should debate this and come up with our own Social solutions, otherwise nobody will solve it for us.

  YAS! I think you are not far from the answer. The Saudis have an agenda to promote their brand of islam, the Sufi islam which is the most radical form of all islam beliefs. To achieve their gaol, ignorant African are given scholarships to study their brand of islam to keep these poor Africans in perpetual bondage. YAS, another question you should be asking is, why do the Saudis send their kids to top schools in the develop world? They could equally give some poor guy scholarship to Cambridge or Oxford. Why ain't they doing that? It is sad Muslims are not allowed to question their religion or question the life of the prophet of islam. There is a lot of info in the Hadiths and your own trusted Muslim sources that makes one question if Mo was the real prophet muslims would have us believe. If you really want to make a change, challenge yourself and dig a bit into the life of your prophet, you would be surprised by the things you would discover for yourself apart from the fairy tales your imam's tell you on Fridays.

  For a guy who grew up in a Zongo community I agree. All religions in Ghana and especially Africa need reformation. Fake Christian pastors are lining their pockets at the expense of ignorance. Early marriages are robbing Muslim girls the education they need. The new breed of Imams graduating out of the Saudi Arabia and Qatar are spreading a brand of Islam that is scaring some of my Muslim friends. Intra Muslim tension is brewing underground in my Kumasi and several other Islamic communities. The push towards ultra conservatism in Islam and unbridled Prosperity Gospel preaching has given birth to the Obinims and several other. Religion was supposed to save us, it might ruin us and soon if we are not careful.

His progressive ideas and outspokenness is good for us all. Muslim or not, we should only bring kids into the world that we can adequately take care of.
  
  Religion has taken hold of many in ways it is not supposed to. You cant pray then sit back for wealth to appear or say I don't need Family planning because God/Allah will provide after what you can adequately take care of, the rest is suffering, Armed Robbery, Superstition and crass ignorance.
