As a very good student of Social Psychology, am at pains to relate the concept of Groupthink to Crabology which in ordinary parlance represents the PULL HIM DOWN syndrome. Having studied under the feet of Don Yangyouru, PHD, Legon in those days, l got it that the concept of GROUPTHINK was developed out of the Bay of Pigs fiasco...a happening under President JFK. Groupthink is purely a case of bigotry or one sided thinking. It is NOT to bring down or hinder the development of any as in Crabology that the writer seem to paint.
Even in crabology a critical analysis will show that it is the desire of all to escape from the lidless bowl that makes a brother to touch or hold a brother. Possibly, the weight of the one below pulls down the one above since the one above gets no object to cling unto.
Pull Him Down yes, but Groupthink? l beg to differ! Group think leads to all agreeing to it that the King is clothed in the most beautiful apparel until a young-milk-sop comes to open our eyes that our King is virtually NAKED. That definitely cannot be a sabotaging, undermining or hating concept.
Thanks.

Nana Yaw or whoever you may be does seem to understand the meaning of groupthink. Even if you do you are misapplying the concept to the Ibrahim Mahama and SSNIT case. What groups are you referring to here? The relevance of groupthink situations occurred in Ghana when the whole NDC as a party and group bought into John Dramani Mahama awarding contract to his brother and the NDC party as a group found nothing wrong with it, also when the whole NDC party as a group agreed with John Dramani Mahama when he stupidly released the Montie 3. These are the situations where groupthink applies.
The case involving Ibrahim is that of criminal intent to defraud the nation of Ghana and to deprive poor and disadvantaged Ghanaians of their livelihood.

Oh yes,the real criminals by and large are the top civil servants not necessarily the politicians in the limelight. We call them white collar criminals who master the act of theft with ink and paper. The concept of crabology vary from one cultural group to the other but in my humble opinion more severe in Northern Ghana despite endemic poverty and deprivation. The average northerner is morbidly jealous and destructive thinking pulling his own brother down in the context of the proverbial crab. One can point to a fortunate coincidence of how his own brother John Dramani Mahama's massive, unprecedented, embarrassing defeat as a sitting president, the first of its kind in the fourth republic as a very good example. The performance of the NPP especially in the 3 northern regions showed the hatred and despise northerners had for John Dramani Mahama, one of their own.His woes as a President reminded me of the woes of Dr.Hilla Limann, one of the great intellectuals and incorruptible political leader in the annals of Ghana's history. In fact Limann literally died as a puppet after his overthrow. It goes without saying in this context that there is no smoke without fire in the very suppressive and oppressive attitude of the northern political elite towards their own people. One thing John Mahama and Dr.Hilla Limann share in common was their aversive attitude towards their own people when they were to be their prime protectors as a vulnerable, deprived group.John Mangufuli of Tanzania with a humble beginning as the son of a peasant has demonstrated how to reunite with the grassroots poor with radical social reforms and anti-corruption crusades in the interest of the poor masses. That is not the case with the northern political elite who invoke tyranny, engage in ruthless brutal oppressive acts against his own and wants to be worship as a demagogue.JDM did not only leave his own people, the most vulnerable group in the country hungry through political ineptitude instigated by massive, widespread corruption but also courted extreme anger in engaging in brutal tyranny and oppression against many northerners he unfortunately perceived as a threat. For instance people who campaigned for JDM in 2012 using their own resources lost jobs and businesses in the most cruel and corrupt fashion immediately he ascended office. It was incredible and hard to fathom as to how victims of injustice with their fundamental rights grossly infringed on labeled as anti-government forces. Many were his northern brothers who actually suffered some form of tribal and political persecution in some instances on suspicion that they supported his campaign in 2012.It was extremely ironic to see the government turn against them by deliberately obstructing justice and rule of law using the AG Department and Dominic Ayine in particular as an indirect tool of oppression. The manner in which northerners from all walks of live galvanized to support him in the 2012 campaign and the manner in which northerners turned against him in 2016 is a brisk testimony of our woes in the context of the crabology concept.Sociologists have it that societies develop through innovators but northerners on the average will remain as laggards with minimal progress for a very long time because of the capitalist oriented and bourgeoisie mentality of the northern political elite who want to remain dominant over their people only to be used as subservient slaves and bargain for political power.Unfortunately, the northern intellectual and business elite have bought into this kind of cruel mentality of dominant thinking hinge on greed and avarice because they must be the only ones seen and heard in their respective communities. There is no way in this world where the capitalist oriented mentality of corruption and exploitation of the suffering lot will survive once the masses are increasingly becoming conscious of their rights other than reaching out to them through selfless, devoted service that will improve their lives. In deed one of the things that gladdened me as far as the 2012 election is concerned is that Ghana is certainly moving away from pettiness to issue based voting with the average Ghanaian voter now becoming increasingly conscious of their voting rights and what they desire to better their lives. That is why an incumbent government with all the resources will spend so much money in influencing electorate and still lose so heavily. In deed some of us have predicted in the past that corruption by the dominant ruling ANC party in South Africa will be its bane in giving back political power to minority white rule that will probably take the country back to the dark days of apartheid. The cracks are beginning to show indicating that corruption any day,any time can never surpass the peoples' power and is in fact a dangerous toxin for political survival. The Mahama Government itself was indeed a victim of groupthink syndrome in not recognizing that corruption definitely was going to be a major hindrance particularly being a social democratic government which should be people centered in terms of ideology. Not surprisingly, the verdict of the post election lost investigative report was alas 'corruption and lack of campaign message'.This post-Morten would have been needless if not for the syndrome of 'groupthink' necessitated by corruption, greed and avarice that insulated the government from reality, wise counseling and prudent decisions that were people centered with high yield of returns in electoral fortunes.

President Mahama is being heaped on the head of his brother'Ibrahim. We all remember saga, sada, the mishandling of the National health insurance concept, the abolishing of the teachers and nurse's allawance, the misuse of the nation's wealth and, and, and many more atrocities melted out to many
Ghanaians . Don't forget the ex president has immunity for a period thus those who suffered and died as a result of the ineptitude of Gvt officials, tons of corruption and the abysmal attitudes of Mahama has no choice than to retaliate what to them is punishment to the ex president's brother. Crabology?

A very sad and unfortunate thinking. God safe our motherland Ghana from intellectuals whose minds are so warped they behave like ostriches !! Asking for responsible citizenship from a young businessman to pay taxes and woke rs pension contributions on time is far from group think or crabology . It sad to read when certain politicians have vow to kill themselves, if Ibrahim Mahama is not jail. Is it a cancer in Ghana to see people from different political divide making progress with the little opportunity that comes their way. I Remember very well during the investigation of the oil deal when Ghana only opt for 10 percent and the 90 percent into the hands of foreign companies, then President Mills once said if a Ghanaian can also make a millions out of the whole deal and employ Ghanaians,he does not see anything wrong. Let Ghanaians be rich and employ Ghanaians, then make a Chinese man rich. Even if a Ghanaian owes but uses the money wisely let us help the Ghanaian industry to grow then to destroy them. SSNIT if you collapse Ibrahim Mahama's business you loose his future contribution. SSNIT learn from the DSS in the UK how they handle such people and still keep them in business.
