We need to gear our education system towards solving our national problems. We need to teach our children to think critically and acquire problem-solving skills. We need education to address the problems of managing our abundant resources effectively for the benefit of all our people.
We must be literate in our own languages, and adopt one of our indigenous languages as our official language.
Away with this nonsense about making French compulsory in our schools!!!!

I bet there are many who have regrets they were not forced to learn French in school. We should have been made to learn it up to Form 5 then but it shouldn't have been made one of the compulsory subjects to pass like Maths and English in order to progress to Sixth Form or univ. Guess how many of us would have been going places internationally were we equipped with the French language. The French, upon learning that Kofi Annan speaks French, dropped their opposition to him to become the UN Sec. Gen. and he became one of their darling "boys".
As for those protesting lack of teachers, the simple solution is to hire expatriate teachers from our neighbours to fill the gap in the classrooms and new French teaching schools for teachers. That will be good policy for cordial neighbourliness. They should only make sure their salaries are paid promptly. I met Togolese French teacher in Nyinahin in 1993 whose sad story of neglect to pay him still haunts me.
As for the dim-witted, inward-looking ethnocentric Akans complaining that it wasn't Twi that was being made an official language, sobs! sobs! sobs! Boo-hooo!

Brother F.K.K. Tse, I hear your call to make a case for French language education, but to me, I think all politicians & educational stakeholders in our country must support the teaching & learning of environmental science, so that our young ones would come to love & appreciate nature, make stewardship a way of life, stop pollution, the defilement of our water bodies & the destruction of our forests, & hurting our incredible biodiversity.
These to me, take precedence over learning French, Swahili & Spanish.
The President must take the leadership in making the whole nation ecologically intelligent.

French was compulsory from form one to form three in the old system. who changed it and why? why must evaluate and assess our earlier attempts avant de se jetter encore dans l'eau.

Nonsense!! Ewe, Akan (Twi or Fanti) Nzema and Dagbani should be made compulsory in all our schools instead of French which is the language of the neocolonialist oppressors of the French speaking countries of Africa !
