If the parliamentarian needs help with the language, her party colleagues can help her. She can also speak pidgin English if she likes.

We are too dependent on English for everything to now want to change from it. Whether we like it or not, English must continue to be the dominant language in our country. We don't have to speak it flawlessly but enough to express our views and take part in debate.

Language is culture. Our knowledge or fluency in English language will never make the English accept us as one of them, neither can it guarantee our proper development.
The earlier we try to develope our own the better.

The writer is not suggesting a NATIONAL language. If in the UN where all nations meet to conduct world politics, why can't we do the same in our parliament?
This is how short-sighted you (all) are with your too known selves.
Already every region is teaching the dominant language there, good. Escalate this to the universities and we are close to perfecting this languages because those are additional research work for students in that department. You need those to interpret it in high officiating places, like the parliament. That is opportunity for JOB. My friends, there are no more jobs (white mans job) everyone seems to be looking for. Learn to CREATE jobs for yourselves. Languages is an opportunity for many positions. Do you realize Ghana has very few AUTHORS, like publishing books. They lack fluency in English. My God, all the jokes we enjoy; all the creativity we have are dying because we cannot publish them.
People of Ghana, we are HANICAPPED by the English language. All the countries able to INVENT things speak their own dialects. Malaysia, Indonesia- all the Asian Tigers - are doing extremely well and still waiting for our turn. WE will wait forever.

It's only in Ghana where Education = English language Acquisition. This must be corrected else we're doomed and our next generations will be sub-standard. It brings to the fore the need to be literate in our indigenous languages. Our children must be taught literacy in our indigenous languages. We must enforce the use of indigenous languages as medium of instruction for the first three years of school. We must adopt one of our indigenous languages as our national language, and only use English as an international language.
