By the way, Alassane did win the election. Even before the elections , Gbabo made it clear he will never allowed a foreigner to rule Ivory Coast. He even attempted to disqualified him but failed.

The Butcher of Abidjan as Quattara has come to be known because of his brutal massacre of civilians led by his northern bandits when he took over the capital city of Ivory Coast is a sad story yet to be told.

Supported by France and the western allies, they presumed that Gbagbo was an African nationalist and a socialist and therefore a threat to western interest hence the conspiracy to get him out.

Those bandits will surely undo Quattara because they have tasted power and the height of their glory and are therefore in no mood for anything lower than what they have become used to.The blood is already flowing in Boake and God knows how it will end.

Not sure it's worth responding to this article. How well informed can we take someone to be who doesn't spell Gbagbo's name correctly and thinks Ouattara worked at the World Bank (it was the IMF). Amazing that you only need to praise Lumumba a few times and you can get away with anything under the pretence of being an anti-colonial hero. Gbagbo was president for a decade - did we see him removing French influence? Not at all - he signed several contracts to continue French dominance of the commanding heights. Ouattara on the side has shifted focus to work with Morocco and China in particular. Politics aside, there's also a simple question of competence - Gbagbo hadn't even run a restaurant before becoming head of state. Dr Ouattara has worked hard and the country has come on leaps and bounds. Things aren't perfect of course - as Gbagbo used to say, you don't leave a civil war as gracefully as you leave a ball.
