In plain-speak, a lawyer like Akufo Addo, if he is actually a serious lawyer, ought to know the difference.
Our thanks to Kwadwo T. Boakye.
Fantastic!

I don't quite understand this. The article does not specify the nature of government sponsorship.
The statement attributed to the minister in charge says the agreed fee for the pilgrimage per person is 2700$. This is about 12,000 GHS a princely sum for many Ghanaians but something that can easily be raised by those Muslim forex bureau owners and merchants. Not for the woman selling koose by the roadside, anyway.
Is government giving each pilgrim 2700$ free or it is only paying part of this? If so, how much?
If each pilgrim is paying the full cost and govt only provides diplomatic resources and a few services because these are Ghanaians, then there is nothing wrong with it. But if govt is paying part of this cost, then certainly government has no duty to do that, not because we are a poor country, but because government should not be in the business of paying money to sustain people's private beliefs.
We need to know the nature of the subvention government gives to the pilgrims before we decide.

When will a stop be put to this lie of government sponsoring Muslims on Hajj annually? Nothing can be more painful for the bulk of Muslims who through their life savings embark on the sacred journey only for some mischievous persons like the above writer to peddle the lie that their journey was sponsored by the government. Every year the Saudi government sponsors some Muslims all over the world to perform the hajj and these people when Mecca are referred to as guests of the Saudi King with many privileges coming their way. This special sponsorship is passed through in the case of Ghana the government. for dustribution to Muslims. So let every body be inforned that the government of Ghana does not sponsor any Muslim on Hajj. What the government does is to facilitate the journey which is a requirement of the Saudi Government.

What does govt facilitating the journey mean? Does it mean govt makes no expenditures at all on the journey?
