As a finance minister, he should always talk and negotiate from a position of "power". This should be the case even when answering questions posed by bigwigs.

Ghana is the entity with the resources...the IMF/WB has little to offer Ghana except its USURIOUS framework of debt burden.

NB: In Ghana, young people are often not taught to develop strong communication and negotiating skills. This is more pronounced in households where there is no father.

Ofori Atta was on point by attributing Ghana's economic woes to Ghana's inability to successfully embrace both export and economic diversification and continuing to rely solely on commodity goods as it sources of income in global trading at the IMF/World Bank meeting.

Maybe Ofori Atta could have placed less emphasis on the anecdotes and rather insisted on the need to embrace export diversification....the new game changer for developing countries such as Ghana to access sustainable economic wealth. This process will revamp the economy and generate the bulk of Ghana's wealth (not from the primary sector as it is now) from the secondary sector via manufacturing and the Tertiary sector respectively.

There is a cautionary note......these processed goods in manufacturing and services SHOULD fully meet the needs and wants of not only global customers but also local consumers. In others words accessing economic prosperity does not come cheap; Ghana has to earn it.

Former developing countries such as Chile, Mauritius, China, Malaysia and Indonesia embraced this strategy and are the envy of economic pundits today.

Mr. Kabureka was speaking on the question of refugees and used his own experience as a refugee as a preamble and that is absolutely relevant. But when you are asked about the nation's economy and its prospects with regards to the IMF programme and you start with your mother refusing to abort you and that at first you did not know your father, blah blah blah, it is exosyllabus at best. So please don't bother to defend such gaffes. Mr. Ofori Atta is fond of talking about himself even when it is not called for. For example, when addressing parliament on the budget, he was shouting " Harvard, Harvard " . What for?

If the finance minister schooled and work in USA, he should have known that these people don't enjoy beating about the bush and talking in tales and using proverbs as if were at an anansensem time in the village. He should have gone straight to the point without any personal anecdotes of an irrelevant nature. Your comparison with the Rwandan minster is also a false analogy.

Our finance minister is new in his job and I am sure if he becomes more experienced, he will stop telling us about his mother's attempts to abort him.
