Papa Appiah, your article is full of Sour Grapes ..!! Period !! If Augusco had won this Quiz would be talking like this. You dont even know the reason for the Science Quiz an u are calling for Arts to be added to it. U make so much noise but ADISCO beat u to the Finals. Even the St Peters you are comparing yourself with is by far a better Science School than Augusco. !! Your Article is USELESS !!..and full of bitterness and sour grapes.! Shame ...!!!

Well Papa, I get your drift. A good school is defined by more than just one national quiz.
But even in the good US of A, I don't recall ever witnessing such excitement among high school students and even their alumni for such a nationwide event.
In my humble opinion, the benefits are quite enormous -- not just by exposing the youth to science and math nationwide, but also by helping to motivate school administrators to do more to enhance the science and math curriculum.
One can also assume the show exposes the entire nation to science and math. For it is not just a quiz, but a presentation of knowledge at a national level.
Even though Augusco has won before, we all, as Ghanaians, must be very proud of Prempeh College for this year's stellar performance.

Good Article!!! I'm an old boy from Prempeh College. It is kind of a bitter sweet that we won.
Our education system in Ghana train us to be robots and not innovators. I found out the hard way when I went to USA for University. I was getting grads from the University in the Electrical Engineering program, but with a Prempeh College program my mindset was different from somebody who went to high school in Europe,USA, and South America.
The Liberal Arts and Business class are very important. We must let our future leaders of the country know that Accounting, Economics, Finance, Literature, History, and Geography are all as important as Math and Physics. Our children must be able to express themselves freely and not make them robots.

Nimdee you made a good point:
"Our education system in Ghana trains us to be robots and not innovators..."
That is why we must also consider a companion inter-high school event -- National Science Fair -- where students would actually design, fabricate, and present their innovative creations for judgement.
This would be the practical wing of the NSMQ, and must heavily include digital creations: app development, web design, robotics, and general coding.
Diasporans should help their Alma Mater by providing such affordable electronic kits as Rasberry Pi, Arduino boards, and Particle microcontrollers for Internet of Things, just to name a few systems under $20.
Youth is for adventure and heroism, and our youngsters deserve more than just sitting around all day whatsapping trivialities on their smartphones.

My old school is asking us, the old boys, to give them money to prepare students for the national quiz because it is a way to highlight the school.
But we have realized this school, which used to be among the best GCE O and A Level achievers countrywide, lacks so many basic amenities today and the school is now poorly run -
nothing at all like in our time.
So my year group is deciding to buy poly tanks for them instead of giving them cash to prepare a few students for a national quiz show on tv.
I wonder if we have made a good decision! The headmaster himself says they need the poly tanks...

Do we think we can get this government to invest in building a Fiber Network Backbone and gradually auction it to the private firms?
I think that will help with our education and move the country to the digital and IoT age faster than any African country.

So who wrote this poor article? You say the Quiz depends on 1 clever chap from a school to win. Really? So they should have invited the whole school to answer quiz, not so? And in the Arts subjects and InterSchool Athletics that you advocated are they not going to invite only 1 or 2 exceptional chaps to compete as well? Does Usain Bolt not represent the whole Jamaica? Instead of complaining Augusco Old Boys should sit up and help their school to match up with Prempeh, Presec and the like instead of insulting them.

We shall indeed.
Augusco should soon expect some science DVDs.

The NSMQ was the initiative of one individual who saw the end from the beginning. What stops you, Papa Appiah from beginning something on similar note that will recognize the other talents (other than M&S) in others students and expect that it will enjoy the same popularity the NSMQ currently enjoys? We are all copy cats and cannot have anything original. As for running our mouths, we are experts. The "to-do" is our bane. The typical Ghanaian that Papa Appiah is, he only asks for more from the very people whose sweat generated the NSMQ without saying what he as Papa Appiah can do to support his "new" idea.
