Kwadwo Asamoah has returned to the Black Stars after 4 years
Following the return to selection by Inter Milan’s Kwadwo Asamoah to the Black Stars section of the public immediately questioned the player’s patriotism towards the country.
The midfielder joined the Italian side from rivals Juventus this summer and forms part of Luciano Spalletti’s first team at the start of the Serie A season starting all three games against Sassuolo, Torino and Bologna.
But ahead of the Kenya AFCON qualifier this weekend, Amidu Kamara, who trained Asamoah at Asokwa Deportivo has defended his former youth player insisting his loyalty and commitment for Ghana has never been in doubt.
“Asamoah’s devotion and commitment for Ghana has never been in doubt. It is people who want to make issues when there are no issues. The player had a difficult time at Juventus and decided to take some time off international duty to be fully fit.” coach Kamara said in an exclusive interview with FootballmadeinGhana.com
“We all know there was a time that he hardly could play games in a row and so why should this be a problem?” he quizzed.
“I am always in touch with him and I know the sort of troubles he had and it irritates me when people attack his (Kwadwo Asamoah) commitment.” he continued.
Black Stars coach echoed same sentiments as those of Kamara.
“When I came, I invited him (Kwadwo Asamoah) but he pleaded with me that he was injured and said someone has taken his position at Juventus. He pleaded with me to give him some time because he was out of position and he was trying to fight to get a position. He told me at the end of last season that he will leave Juventus, so when he leaves, automatically he will come. He left and now he is back in the team.” Appiah said.
Ghana travel to Kenya to take on the Harambee Stars on Saturday September 8 at the Moi International sports center in Kasarani.
