Over half of college girls who contract STDs were drunk at the time they were infected, according to records.
New Juaben Municipal Chief Executive, Mr Alex Asamoah, in a speech read on his behalf, said records also showed that around 28 percent of school dropouts were alcoholics and 40 percent of students having academic problems used drugs. He added that worldwide, violence and drug and alcohol abuse are leading causes of death of people aged 15 to 24.
The speech was read by Assistant Director Mr Kenneth Agbehemia at the Golden Mothers Vision International Drug-Free Club at the Koforidua Technical Institute at the weekend. The event was sponsored by the Narcotic Control Board and Shahna Socomax Pharmacy Ghana Ltd.
Mr Asamoah said statistics from NACOB and the psychiatric hospitals showed the number of youth between 15 and 20 years involved in drugs case had increased in recent years.
