ABii National Savings and Loans has organized a free medical screening and treatment programme in Accra for its customers and the public.

The medical screening, which was held at the ABii National office premises at Mallam-Atta, falls under the Company’s broad annual focus theme for the year 2015: “Health for all and True Care for the Needy.”

It formed part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR) in a bid to give back to society, and to appreciate the public for their support and trust which had culminated in impressive achievements over the short period of operations.

The programme, which was organized with the support of Tobinco Pharmaceuticals, its parent company, and the Pentecost Medical Students Association, Korle-Bu, was aimed at making medical aid available to those who found it difficult and too expensive, or were too busy to access medical care.

The screening exercise, which lasted for seven and half hours, attracted over 500 men, women and children, who took advantage to check their health status, such as malaria parasites, blood pressure, blood sugar level, body mass index, hepatitis B and other general health checks with free consultation services.

Numerous drugs, ranging from analgesics, haematinics, anti-biotics, dewormers and lonart, a good anti-malaria drug distributed by Tobinco Pharmaceuticals, were given out free of charge.

Mr Ashie Bennet, the Head of Corporate Affairs, Corporate Support and Service Excellence at ABii National, in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, said he was overwhelmed at the number which turned out to be screened, and expressed joy that ABii National was able to help such a large number of people.

He said the timing of the programme was very crucial to the general public with the temporal challenges the country’s health sector was experiencing.

Mr Ashie said the medical screening was part of the many programme and activities lined up to help the needy and poor in society.

He said the Medical Outreach plan had been carved to cover the entire country, to ensure everyone benefited.

Some of the participants who spoke to GNA after the exercise, were full of praise for ABii National and Tobinco Pharmaceuticals, and said the timing was right.

Management of ABii National said the outreach marked the beginning of their medical project which would be taken to many other areas.
