Accra, Aug. 05, GNA- The Aggrey Memorial AME Zion Church on Saturday provided free medical care to about 400 persons within the Mamprobi community in Accra.
Among the services offered were blood pressure examinations, general consultation and counselling as well medical prescriptions. Dr. Emmanuel Srofenyoh, a gyaenacologist at the Ridge Hospital and Head of the medical team said the hypertension and diabetes were prevalent among the adult group, while children registered mostly malnutrition, chest problems and worm infestations and the like. He attributed the high incidence of hypertension to nutritional deficiencies and lack of adequate exercise among all the categories of the people examined.
Dr. Srofenyoh advised the public to seek frequent medi-care to have sufficient information, regarding their health status, saying most of the people do not seek medical attention and this is as a result of poverty.
He urged the people to register with the National Health Insurance Scheme to guarantee them access to free medical services and prolong their lives.
The Head Pastor of the AME Zion Church, Rev. Peter Sefogah said the medical exercise was the church's little assistance to promote healthy lifestyle within the community.
"We have received a great deal of goodwill from the people and this is our little way of paying them back".
He noted that the medical outreach was a sideline activity to mark his 10 years of assuming the role as a pastor of the church. Rev Sefogah noted that the church, under his leadership had chalk tremendous successes, key among which was the transformation of the lives of many, resulting in growth of the church from 300 to about 700. The church has also expanded the school's classroom block, provided streetlights and had embarked upon frequent blood donation exercises.
He said they have also initiated small-scale credit facilities to provide regular support to the needy and was in the process of grouping businessmen in the church to come out with business plan to support the people.
The Reverend Minister wished that in the next ten years, the church would be a complete agent of change, inculcating a winning attitude into the people through the wisdom of Christ.
