Kintampo (B/A), Jan. 17, GNA - The Management of Kintampo North and South District Health Insurance Scheme registered 16,779 people out of the estimated population of 146,700 by the end last year. Mr. Jacob Amoako Adoesom, District Manager of the Scheme disclosed this in an interview with the Ghana News Agency at Kintampo about the Scheme which became operational in September last year. He said about 468 million cedis was realized from the clients and about 277.2 million cedis spent on 238 clients for their health care in health institutions under the Scheme.
The District Manager said Kintampo North District Assembly offered 100 million cedis means of transport while Kintampo South District Assembly assisted with 35 million cedis, a computer and accessories. Mr. Adoesom said the Management of Centre for the Development of People (CEDEP) an NGO, had selected both districts among 10 others nation-wide for assistance in the growth of their Schemes. Nana Menka Banawa 11, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Scheme expressed concern about lack of office accommodation, logistics such as computers and accessories and means of transport, the main challenges facing the Scheme.
He noted that the Scheme had only a motorbike for officials to operate within 186 communities. Nana Banawa was optimistic that more people would register with the Scheme this year because most people had realized the importance of the Scheme.
He appealed to Assembly members, unit committees, chiefs and religious leaders to educate the people to register with the Scheme to enable them enjoy improved health care delivery.
