Achiase Health Centre to be upgraded into polyclinic

Mr Alex Segbefia, the Minister for Health, has announced that the Achiase Health Centre, would be upgraded into a polyclinic when funds are available.

The Achiase Health Centre serves the Achiase Jungle Warfare, the only military warfare training school in Africa.

Mr Segbefia made the announcement when answering questions on the floor of Parliament.

The announcement was in response to a question posed by Mr Robert Kwasi Amoah, MP for Achiase, who wanted to know from the Minister when the Achiase Health Centre would be renovated and possibly upgraded to the status of a District Hospital.

According to the Minister, the Ministry had a policy of providing health facilities at all levels across the country - from the national to the community level.

He explained:“District hospitals are basically provided for district capitals. However, since Achiase is a sub-district within Birim South, the Ministry can only consider the construction of a polyclinic that covers a significant portion of the Primary Health Care services,” Mr Segbefia said.

The Minister added: “Indeed the major difference here will be the number of beds. Whereas the Ministry considers bed numbers raging between 60 and120 for District Hospital, the Polyclinics would have a maximum of 40 beds.

“As soon as funding is secured, the Achiase Health Centre will be upgraded to a Polyclinic,” he assured.
