Kpetoe (V/R), Oct. 1 GNA- The Adaklu Anyigbe District Health Insurance Scheme, has registered 19,262 members since it commenced operating in November last year. The scheme has generated 8,700 Ghana cedis premium and paid about 19,821 Ghana cedis to health service providers as claims on behalf of 5,602 members. Mr. Raybon-Evans Anyadi, District Scheme Manager, disclosed these at a press briefing at Kpetoe on Monday.

He said a "Health Insurance People's Assembly," would be organised in the Adaklu, Ziope and Agortime areas to encourage more people to register for the scheme. Mr. Anyadi said efforts were being made for the decentralization of the scheme to facilitate its operations. He urged assembly members, unit committee members and traditional rulers in the district to encourage the people to register with the scheme.

Mr. Anyadi said, " The National Insurance Scheme is one of the best programmes of the government, as it remains the only social welfare package in the country to be enjoyed by both the rich and the poor." He said the National Health Insurance Council has released 56,030 Ghana cedis, 20 per cent for administrative work and 80 percent for the payment of claims and seven sets of computers to facilitate the operations of the District Health Scheme. Mr. Anyadi appealed to the Council to provide the District Scheme with vehicles, motorbikes and bicycles and logistics.
