Nkoranza (B/A) May 11, GNA - Mr. Kwasi Djan, Nkoranza District School Health Programme (SHEP) Coordinator, has commended the Medical Assistance Programme (MAP) International, a United States NGO, operating in Nkoranza for its interventions and assistance towards the prevention of buruli ulcer. The American NGO has the prime objective of helping to control buruli ulcer in the district and has also been offering medical and other logistical support to the district health directorate in addressing other health problems.
Mr. Djan told the Ghana News Agency at Nkoranza at the weekend that about 268 health teachers in primary schools in the Nkoranza North and South districts had received education in the early detection of buruli ulcer cases at a workshop sponsored by MAP International. The SHEP coordinator said the teachers also acquired knowledge on the management and control of malarial cases among zero to five years old children and the elderly. He appealed to the management of MAP International to arrange for a similar workshops for other stakeholders such as executives of school management committees, parent teacher associations and religious leaders.
Mr. Djan paid special tribute to UNICEF for organising a national deworming exercise for school children throughout the country, for the past two years, and appealed to the two district assemblies to arrange for funds to support school health programmes to promote the health of students. He also called on other NGOs, religious bodies and philanthropists to support health education activities in the two districts.
