'Necessity is the mother of invention' is a timeless adage that speaks to the ability of humans to be innovative in the face of challenges.

As history shows, some of the groundbreaking inventions were borne out of adversity, often serving as a catalyst for creativity, inspiring inventors to life-saving feats of ingenuity, and the story of Amanda Aniagyei, a student of the Ashesi University in Ghana, is no exception.

According to details on her story shared by her school page on Facebook, her father experienced a scare concerning his heart as he hadn't been seeing his doctor for a while.

In response, she quickly recognised the urgent need for a solution that would give persons experiencing health challenges, like her father, more control over their health.

The details, as shared on August 13, 2024, added that she decided to develop a smartwatch that empowers users by offering personalized information on their health.

The smartwatch also helps one to track health data easily.

"The smart watch measures heart rate variability, blood oxygen concentration, and accelerometer and gyroscope values. Additionally, it allows the user to store and send the recorded values to a nearby device via Bluetooth Low Energy.

"The watch also gives personalised alerts when the heart rate is high and predicts stress levels. Altogether, it allows users to take control of their health," the post said.

Amanda's ability to transform a personal challenge into a tool for health monitoring is a reminder that in the face of adversities and challenges, humans can find solutions to those issues.
