Asante-Akim South DMHIS registers 43,151

Juaso (Ash), Sept. 6, GNA 96 Barely one year after the Asante-Akim South District Mutual Health Insurance Scheme (DMHIS) took off, 43,151 people have been registered representing 37.8 per cent of the district's population of 114,000.

Out of the number, 21,357 subscribers have been issued with identity and hospital attendance cards with 532.6 million cedis paid in claims.

Dr Lord Justice Gyamfi-Fenteng, the District Chief Executive, who disclosed these at the assembly's last sitting at Juaso said the scheme had received a total premium of 1,067 billion cedis.

Giving the breakdown, the DCE said 19,173 of the number registered were from the informal sector, 1,979 from the formal sector with the remaining 21,999 being children, pensioners, indigents and those above 70 years.

He commended the staff of the scheme for their achievement and urged the assembly members to encourage people in their communities to patronise the scheme to improve health delivery in the country. On youth employment, the DCE said 656 youth had been registered under the National Youth Employment Programme, adding that their names had been forwarded to the Ministry of Manpower, Youth and employment pending the release of funds for implementation. Touching on education, Dr Gyamfi-Fenteng noted that Ahyiresu and Yaw Bronya primary schools had been selected for a pilot project under the school feeding programme.

He further disclosed that 25 sets of television had been distributed to first and second cycle institutions to promote the President's Special Initiative on Distance Learning. 02 Sept. 06
