Asantehene’s Foundation supports Obuasi hospital children’s’ ward

Obuasi (Ash), Sept 29, GNA - the Serwaa Ampem Foundation for Children has donated some items to the Children’s Ward of the Obuasi Government Hospital.

The items include a generator, mosquito nets, mattresses, plastic buckets and dustbins.

The foundation, a non-governmental organization, was set up by the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei-Tutu II, to provide support for vulnerable and orphaned children and those infected with HIV and AIDS.

Mrs Julia Osei-Tutu, wife of the Asantehene and Executive Director of the Foundation, presented the gifts to the facility at a ceremony at Obuasi and appealed to all to join in efforts at promoting the welfare of children.

She said everything must be done to give adequate protection to the young ones and to ensure their proper development and growth.

Mrs Osei-Tutu said there was the need to step up HIV and AIDS education to check the spread of the virus.

Dr Eric Nsiah Boakye, the Medical Superintendent of Hospital, complained about the poor state of the facility and said outmoded equipment they had been operating with needed urgent replacement.

He said since its establishment in 1985, the hospital had not seen any major refurbishment and inadequate space had also resulted in congestion at the Out-Patients Department (OPD).

He thanked the Foundation for the donation.

Mrs Osei-Tutu later performed the ceremony to officially open the Obuasi office of the Eden Financial Services, a micro-finance company, and appealed to women to adopt the culture of saving.
