The Asante-Akim South District Assembly is building a GHc 192,802 Community Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compound at Yaw-Barimah, a predominantly cocoa and food crop growing village to provide the people access to quality healthcare.
Farmers in four other communities – Asempaneye, Abrewanko, Kwakrukrom and Kumeaboi, with a combined population of over 3,000 would be served by the facility.
Mr. De-graft Fokuo, the District Chief Executive (DCE), performing the ceremony to mark the start of construction works on the project, said it would be ready within four months.
This would end the situation where the sick in the area are forced to make a round trip of about 14 kilometres to seek medical treatment at either Obogu or Kumeso.
The CHPS compound comes with an out-patients department (OPD), labour and recovery wards, consulting room and staff accommodation.
The DCE said health promotion was one of the priorities of the government and that no effort would be spared to assure the rural population of improved healthcare.
He saluted farmers for their tremendous contribution to the nation’s economy and said they would continue to invest in projects that would better their lot.
Mr. Fokuo urged the contractors to ensure quality job, warning that shoddy work would not be accepted.
They should again do everything to meet the timelines to prevent delays.
Mr. Sulley Ringo Narh, the acting District Director of Health Services, welcomed what he described as its strategic location, saying, this would aid effective health planning in the area.
He advised the people to show ownership of the facility and to patronize it when completed.
Nana Adofo Akuamoah, the Chief, said the people were grateful to the Assembly for the project and appealed to the government to fix the bad road leading to the area to remove the stress and difficulty of transporting farm produce to the marketing centres.
