One more person has died of the deadly Pneumococcal Meningitis in Wenchi in the Brong Ahafo region.

This brings to nine the total number of people killed by the disease within two weeks, Starr News' Brong Ahafo regional correspondent Michael Sarpong Mfum reports.

About 30 people were recently hospitalized after they were infected with the deadly disease.

Meanwhile, health experts in the area say the latest strain is more contagious than Cerebrospinal Meningitis.

District health director for Tain, Dr. Michael Rockson Adjei in an earlier interview with Starr News said the situation is under control.

“We have done a lot by managing the outbreak, this is pneumococcal meningitis not CSM…it kills faster and compared to CSM this is fatal,” Mr. Rockson Adjei said.

He added that the outbreak started around December 24 and urged infected residents to report quickly to the nearest hospital for treatment.
