BONABOTO Undertakes Medical Outreach Programme in Upper East

Bolgatanga (UE), Jan. 6, GNA - a Team of four Medical Doctors including three Nurses, three Pharmacists from the Bolgatanga, Nabdam, Bong= o and Tongo(BONABOTO) Traditional Areas in the Upper East Region working in health institutions in southern Ghana returned home this year to offer medical services to People in the Upper East Region. The Doctors who embarked upon a seven-day medical screening in the Bolgatanga Municipality and the Bongo District, treated various diseases an= d carried out surgical operations on hernia and breast cancer patients. Speaking to the Ghana News Agency, Dr Francis Abatanga, Head of Surger= y Department at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST= ) indicated that the exercise formed part of the BONABOTO National Delegates Congress held in the Region this year. He said the Association would periodically provide such support to the Region to offset the problem of lack of health personnel. As part of the National Delegates Congress, BONABOTO also donated item= s including five packs of toiletries, one carton of key soap, and a carton of biscuits at the cost of 750 Ghana Cedis to God Love Foster Home, an orphanage at Soe suburb in the Bolgatanga Municipality. The National President of BONABOTO, Mr. Mathew Adombire who presented the items, indicated that the gift formed part of BONABOTO's social responsibility and said they would continue to offer such support to the deprived in society. The Bolgatanga Municipal Chief Executive, Mr. Epsona Ayamga who was ful= l of praise for BONABOTO, thanked the group for the gesture and appealed to them to periodically come home to support the Region. He indicated that one of the challenges facing the Region was the shortage of health personnel and commended the group for its foresight. He said the lack of health personnel had been a long standing problem and stressed the need for them to come home to work to help reduce the health problem in the Region.

The Regional Director of Health Services, Dr. Kokou Awoonor-Williams, said the support from the health team had reduced the pressure on health personnel which was a major problem confronting the Region. Many of the patients who spoke to the GNA said they were happy and relieved by the support received from the Medical team and appealed to the team to continue to come to their aid.
