He said the District Assembly provided office accommodation for the Scheme at the cost of 450 million cedis.

Mr Adjei-Manu, who was addressing the last meeting of the Assembly at Bibiani, said the Assembly also built a children's ward at the cost of 300 million cedis for the town's hospital and also spent 60 million cedis on the training of 21 nurses to help augment the staff of the District hospital.

According to him, the Assembly completed a total of 40 classroom blocks for the various communities and had paid for the training of 204 teachers out of which 149 have completed their courses and posted to the communities.

He said more than 60 students were being sponsored at the cost of over 400 million cedis.

He said five schools in the District were piloting the NEPAD school feeding programme and that school enrolments had increased from 22,166 to 26,153 following the introduction of the Capitation grant, necessitating the immediate construction of 123 additional classrooms and recruitment of 97 more teachers.
