Bolgatanga, Feb. 16, GNA - Dr Samuel Aborah, Clinical Coordinator, Bolgatanga Regional Hospital, on Wednesday called on the Health Ministry to provide the region with W 135 vaccines to help in the control of the perennial problems of Cerebro-Spinal Meningitis (CSM). Dr. Aborah said the available W135 vaccines were in other districts that recorded high cases of CSM last year saying there was need to have mor= e in the region.

Speaking to Ghana News in Bolgatanga, Dr Aborah said there had been a downward trend in CSM cases as against 100 cases recorded last year. He said 19 cases with seven females and twelve males had been recorded since the beginning of the year. Out of the number, four females and one male whose ages ranged between four and 27 years died. Dr Aborah said though the season was prone to CSM, the Health Directorate was trying to control any incidence of the disease saying the region recorded no cases of guinea worm.

He urged all who have not taken the vaccination in the last three year= s to do so and also report any cases of stiffness of the neck and headaches and bloody diarrhoea to the nearest hospital.

Dr Aborah said most of the health problems were due to poor sanitary conditions and urged all to observe good personal hygiene at all times.
