The Bolgatanga Municipal Directorate of the National Health Insurance Scheme has met various set targets, Mr Roland Ayine Abane, the Municipal Manager of the Scheme, has said.

He said this during a performance review meeting, organized for stakeholders including health service providers, subscribers, assembly members, opinion leaders and market women.

The review meeting, the Director explained, was to discuss the achievements and challenges of the Scheme as well as solicit the inputs of the stakeholders to make the Scheme more vibrant.

Mr Anaba said the Municipal Scheme as at October 31, 2015 had registered and issued 89,263 NHIS Biometric identify cards and this represents 80 per cent of the expected target.

“Additionally the Municipal Directorate of the Scheme partnered with the Municipal Directorate of the Ghana Education Service to register 26,600 school children, representing 100 per cent of the Scheme end of year target”, the Municipal Scheme Manager said.

Mr Anaba expressed the hope that with the review of the new medicine and tariff lists which took effect from December 1, Health Service Providers would ensure the sustainability of the Scheme.

The Manager, who commended various stakeholders including the Ghana Health Service, the Ghana Education Service, the NHIA, the Health Service providers, and the Media, entreated them to continue to strengthen their collaboration with his outfit to help sustain it.

Whilst many participants took the opportunity of the open forum session to ask questions about the Capitation and the Preferred Primary Provider (PPP) introduced by the Scheme, others also complained about the delay in accessing NHIS Biometric Identity Cards.
