Bontrase Health Centre calls for assistance

Mr Charles Opoku-Yantakyi, a nursing staff in charge of the Awutu-Bontrase Health Centre, has appealed to the National Insurance Authority to provide Awutu-Bontrase town with a biometric mobile registration machine.

According to Mr Yantakyi, the absence of the registration machine and ID cards renewal equipment in the area was affecting the operation of the Bontrase Community Health Centre which covers more than 24 towns and villages.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency at Awutu-Bontrase, Mr Yantakyi said a survey he conducted revealed that majority of the over 30,000 people living in the catchment areas of the health centre cannot assess healthcare with their old National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) membership cards.

“This is because the cards have expired and need to be renewed under the biometric registration system,” he said.

Mr Yantakyi said as a result, the attendance at the health centre had reduced drastically hence the need for a biometric registration equipment in Bontrase.
