Bosomtwe DHMT exceed Immunisation target

The Bosomtwe Health Management Team (DHMT) has exceeded its target in the recent National Polio Immunisation exercise which took place across the country. Out of the target of 18,383 children, who were expected to be given the oral polio vaccine, the DHMT was able to cover 20,463 children representing 111.3 per cent of the target population.

The Bosomtwe District Disease Control Officer, Madam Audrey Marian Nti, told the Ghana New Agency (GNA) that the success chalked was due to prudent planning and hard work on the part of the various stakeholders in the district.

On the dosage of vitamin A capsules to children between the ages 6 to 59 months, the district also covered 16,097 children instead of the target of 16,547 representing 97.3 per cent coverage.

She said a total of 150 volunteers forming 75 groups were involved in the exercise and they visited 63 communities and commended the various stakeholders who contributed in diverse ways to make the programme a success.

The District Disease Control Officer mentioned difficulty of getting vehicles to convey volunteers as the major challenge that confronted them during the exercise.

She appealed to pregnant women to report early to hospital when they get pregnant to enable them get proper health care for the unborn child.

Bernard Badu-Bediako, Acting Director of Health Service called on people not to let their religious beliefs prevent them from immunizing their children.
