The National Insurance Commission (NIC) has been lauded by the Communication for Development and Advocacy Consult (CDA Consult) for its support and promotion of health care, earning them a prestigious award as the best overall organization involved in blood donation.

Mr. Francis Ameyibor, Executive Director of CDA Consult, commented on the NIC award, saying, "CDA Consult classified this award as a testament to NIC's unwavering commitment to corporate social responsibility and community development, as well as support for institutions towards holistic health care."

The NIC was recognized by the National Blood Service during an event to commemorate the 2024 World Blood Donor Day event in Ghana.

World Blood Donor Day, celebrated in June, recognizes the selfless act of blood donation and encourages more people to join the life-saving cause.

This year's theme, "Celebrating 20 years of giving: thank you blood donors!" acknowledges the invaluable contributions of voluntary, unpaid blood donors.

The National Blood Service has received 5,019 pints of blood from the commission during the last three years, according to Mr. Michael Andoh, Acting Commissioner of the NIC.

Mr. Andoh said, "Recognising that a blood service that gives patients access to safe blood in sufficient quantity is a key component of an effective health system."

The Acting NIC Commissioner praised organizations and individuals for supporting their yearly blood donation drives and promised the commission would continue to supply blood.

The National Blood Service organized the event to recognize and honour institutions and organizations that have helped the National Blood Bank in its work as part of the anniversary in Ghana.

“Thank you to voluntary, unpaid blood donors for their life-saving gifts of blood,” Dr. Shirley Owusu Ofori, Chief Executive of the National Blood Service, stated during the event.

Dr. Ofori also thanked Ghanaians for supporting the service through their regular donations and assured the public of continued engagement and interactions with all interested parties in ensuring effective and efficient health service delivery to Ghanaians.

Other organizations and individuals were also recognized for their efforts in stocking the National Blood Bank.

This year's theme, “20 years of celebrating giving: thank you, blood donors,” offers an excellent opportunity to thank blood donors across the world for their life-saving donations over the years and how their contributions have had a profound impact on lives all over the globe.

Mr. Ameyibor, while commending the NIC for their outstanding achievement, acknowledged their dedication to blood donation and their contributions towards CDA CONSULT's cervical cancer prevention advocacy efforts.

"We appreciate the NIC's steadfast assistance and dedication to giving back to the community. They have made significant contributions to our advocacy work for cervical cancer prevention, and we look forward to working with them going forward," Mr. Ameyibor stated.

The National Insurance Commission is a major collaborator in the comprehensive cervical cancer change paradigm advocacy campaign launched by Consult (CDA Consult), a non-governmental organization that advocates for development communication.

The four main pillars of the CDA Consult Change Paradigm campaign are advocating for free cervical cancer prevention vaccinations, increasing preventative efforts, promoting early detection screenings, and providing treatment assistance in order to eradicate cervical cancer in Ghana by 2030.

Mr. Ameyibor clarified that CDA Consult brings together health professionals, human rights advocates, gender activists, religious adherents, and communication practitioners to launch a new paradigm of advocacy and assistance by combining proactive advocacy abilities with robust communication networks.
