CHST has urged CHAG to extend LHIMS to more than 100 Catholic health facilities
The Catholic Health Service Trust–Ghana (CHST) has formally requested the Christian Health Association of Ghana (CHAG) to extend the Lightwave Health Information Management System (LHIMS) to more than 100 Catholic health facilities across the country, in what could become one of the largest digital health rollouts in Ghana’s faith-based health sector.
The request, dated April 14, 2025, was addressed to CHAG’s Executive Director and copied to the Deputy Executive Director. CHST described the move as a strategic step toward strengthening health information systems and improving the overall quality of care within its extensive network of hospitals, polyclinics, health centres and clinics.
According to the Trust, Catholic health facilities already operating LHIMS are witnessing remarkable improvements in patient data management, clinical decision-making and operational efficiency. CHST believes scaling the system to all its facilities will enhance the accuracy of clinical records, reduce delays in service delivery and support better health outcomes nationwide.
To facilitate the rollout, CHST has assigned its Monitoring, Evaluation and Compliance Unit, led by Frank Kpoh, to coordinate directly with CHAG.
He is expected to provide technical and administrative support throughout the deployment process, ensuring a smooth transition for all beneficiary institutions.
Attached to the request was a comprehensive list of more than 100 facilities earmarked for LHIMS installation. These facilities are spread across all 16 regions, including the Ahafo, Ashanti, Bono, Bono East, Central, Eastern, Greater Accra, Northern, Savannah, North East, Upper East, Upper West, Volta, Western and Western North regions.
Some of the facilities listed include :
St Joseph’s Catholic Hospital, Wenchi – Bono Region
Pieta Catholic Hospital, Sampa – Bono Region
Tatale Catholic District Hospital, Tatale – Northern Region
Holy Spirit Catholic Polyclinic, Kwesi Fante – Eastern Region
Nativity of Our Lady Catholic Polyclinic, Ko – Upper West Region
St George’s Catholic Polyclinic, Liati – Volta Region
Santa Maria Refuge Camp Catholic Health Centre, Krisan – Western Region
The request was signed by Dr Lawrence Ofosu Adjare, Deputy Director of Health for CHST, on behalf of the Director of Health. In concluding the letter, the Trust reaffirmed its longstanding motto: “God is our Help and Health.”
If approved by CHAG, the deployment will represent a major milestone in Ghana’s healthcare digitisation efforts. LHIMS—already widely recognised for improving electronic medical records—has been pivotal in helping facilities streamline patient flow, reduce paperwork, and ensure timely access to medical information.
Health analysts say the move could significantly boost national progress toward a fully integrated digital health ecosystem, especially within the private and mission-based health subsector, which serves millions of Ghanaians annually.
With more than 100 additional facilities poised to go digital, CHST’s request signals a bold push toward modernising healthcare delivery and strengthening data-driven by decision-making in Ghana’s evolving health landscape.
