COVID-19: 31 cases recorded in the past week - GHS

The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has reported an upsurge in COVID-19 infections in Ghana.

According to the GHS, approximately 31 new COVID-19 cases have emerged across the nation in the last week.

In a briefing with journalists in Accra, Dr Kwame Amponsah-Achiano, the Programme Manager at the Expanded Programme on Immunization at GHS, mentioned that none of the individuals diagnosed with COVID is in critical condition.

He reassured the public not to be overly concerned about the spike in coronavirus cases, emphasizing that COVID-19 has become "endemic" and, therefore, occasional outbreaks should be expected.

“In the past week or so, we were recording some significant numbers up to about 30 or 31 or so. But over the past 3, or 4 days, I think the numbers have come down. But this (the new cases) is not unexpected. As we have already been saying, COVID has come to stay with us. It is part of us.

“And so, from time to time when we look, we would find it. And that is why we also haven’t given up on vaccination,” he said.

Dr Amponsah-Achiano announced that there would be a nationwide COVID-19 vaccination exercise.

“And so, if you are aware, from 5th to 9th May, we are going to do another exercise of COVID vaccination known as the National COVID-19 Vaccination Exercise (NCVE) as part of strategies to reduce COVID to the barest immune,” he added.
