Catherine Afeku hands over particulars of the ambulance to management of the hospital
The Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Catherine Abelema Afeku has donated a brand new ambulance from her personal coffers to the Axim government hospital for emergency relief services.
The presentation is in response to a passionate request by management of the hospital to the Tourism Minister during a special visit to the health facility earlier this year.
Catherine Afeku disclosed that she shed tears at the sight of the hospital's old ambulance because it wasn't functioning as expected.
"Today is the day the Lord has made and all of us should be happy and celebrate it. When I came here last two months and I saw the old ambulance her, I wept and had to try my best to get the hospital a new one," she said.
Madam Afeku, who doubles as the Member of Parliament for Evalue Ajomoro-Gwira, further urged the management of the hospital to properly maintain the new ambulance to ensure a longer lifespan.
The MP also used the occasion to pledge her commitment to replace the damaged X-ray machine at the hospital in due course.
In addition, she appealed to the gathering to rally behind the Akufo-Addo led administration adding that "the NPP government has good programs for the constituency and I'm going to liaise with President Akufo-Addo to develop the constituency".
She commended the Municipal Chief Executive for the area, Frank Okpenyen for working closely with her.
"My MCE is a very hardworking man and he has been helping me in all my endeavours and I know our partnership will help to develop this area and by 2020 Evalue-Ajomoro Gwira will be a small London".
On his part, the Principal Health Services Administrator of the hospital, Mr Domie Godswell expressed his profound appreciation to the MP for the kind gesture.
"We considered ourselves very honoured to be beneficiaries of this great gesture", he said excitingly.
He assured the MP that the ambulance would be used for its intended purposes to improve quality healthcare delivery for people within the area and beyond.
