A thirty-four member team of doctors and other health professionals from the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital in the US are collaborating with their counterparts in the Paediatric Surgery Unit of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital to perform surgeries for children with complex surgical problems.

A statement from the Hospital copied to the Ghana News Agency said on Wednesday more than 25 children would benefit from the outreach service which would last for a week.

The team will be led by Professor Mark Levitt.

The patients for this year’s programme have already been selected, screened and prepared for the surgery.

The statement said the outreach programme was part of a Memorandum of Understanding with the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital that is consolidating the establishment of a Paediatric Colorectal Centre at the Hospital to handle deformities associated with the colon, rectum and anus of children but could be corrected surgically.

The Team will be donating medical equipment and items to the Hospital and patients, particularly those at the Children’s Block.

The team will also renovate the Mothers’ Hostel, which is a facility to accommodate the parents/guardians of children who are admitted to the Children’s Block.**
