Civil servants medical care will supplement NHIS

Kumasi, Sept 10, GNA - Mr Kwame Asamoah-Dwomoh, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the Civil Servants Association (CSA) of Ghana, has stated that the Ashanti Regional civil servants medical care scheme will supplement the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) when it gets into full operation in the region.

He has therefore, called on members not to ignore the NHIS but to fully register with it to benefit from it. Addressing members of the association at Mamponteng in the Kwabre district on Friday as part of his working visit to the area, Mr. Asamoah-Dwomoh said the association's scheme would be strategised and repackaged to cater for the five per cent ailments that the NHIS is not taking care of.

He reminded members that it was even crucial for them to register with the NHIS because Act 650, which established it makes it mandatory for all Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) contributors, since two-and-half per cent of their contribution is being taken to support the scheme.

Mr Asamoah-Dwomoh called on members to exercise restraint on the delay of the implementation of this year's minimum wage increase. He pointed out that negotiations were still going for the payment of the wages and stressed that the government will at all cost pay salaries based on the new minimum wage. Nana Detoh, Kwabre district chairman of the association who retained his position in an election, urged members to support the activities of the association. He advised members to adhere to the constitution of the association and work as expected of them.
