Accra, Oct. 5, GNA - The management of Coca Cola African Foundation of the Coca Cola Company on Wednesday donated medical equipment and assorted drinks worth $400,000 to the Ministry of Health (MOH) for distribution to three hospitals to improve health care delivery in the country.
They included drip stand, patient monitor, multi-purpose bed, electro surgical unit, autoclave, weighing scale, delivery bed, infant warmer, instrument trolley, suction unit and assorted drinks.
The hospitals are Tamale West Hospital, Wa Regional Hospital and Effia Nkwanta Hospital.
Mr Philippe Ayivor, Public Affairs, Communications Director and Coordinator of the Foundation, presenting the items, stated that management in partnership with Medshare, an American Humanitarian Aid NGO saw it as an honour to assist the hospitals.
He said as a global business that operated locally, Coca Cola fully recognised that business could only be successful if the people in the local communities where the company’s products were being sold were healthy.
“We build the welfare and sustainability of the communities in which we operate into all the programmes and activities undertaken by the management,” he added.
Mr Ayivor said through its business sustainability programme, the Foundation was focused on improving the living conditions of the people by providing access to safe and clean drinking water by improving education and health care.
He said the donation was unique because GHS and the recipient institutions selected the equipment and supplies required to provide the best health care to their patients.
Mr Ayivor said the equipment would provide health care delivery and create opportunities for income generation.
He noted that the communities must endeavour to ensure improved health and welfare but cautioned the recipients to ensure proper care of the equipment and urged them to place high value on them.
Mr Joseph Yieleh Chireh, Minister of Health, receiving the items expressed appreciation and gave the assurance that they would be delivered to the beneficiary hospitals and would be well maintained.
Dr Bashiru Abdul Majeed, Medical Director of Tamale West Hospital expressed appreciation to the management for the items saying they would go a long way to improve health care delivery in the communities.
