Cocoa Clinic organises free health screening in Accra

Accra, Jan. 12, GNA - Cocoa Clinic, a public medical centre in Accra has organised a free medical screening programme for the people of Serpeiman and its environs in the Ga West Municipal Assembly.

The initiative was part of the Corporate Social Responsibility of the Clinic to educate the public on issues affecting their health and to make them health conscious in order to have regular checkups.

About 400 people from the community, benefited from the day’s programme, which was focused on breast cancer screening, blood sugar testing, blood pressure check, de-worming of children, education on HIV and AIDS, safe use of medicines as well as general health practices.

During the programme, those found needing immediate medical attention were referred to hospital. Most of the beneficiaries were diagnosed of having diabetes and hypertension.

The women were also clinically screened for pathology breast cancer and taught how to perform self examination of the disease before they were referred to hospital.

Dr Edward Amporful, Chief Pharmacist at Cocoa Clinic said the health facility was moved by the medical plight of the underprivileged to organise the screening programme.

He said the programme, was the fourth in a series to be undertaken, nationwide.

Nii Serpei Agbetekor III, Chief of Serpeiman expressed appreciation to the management of the Clinic for the programme and said he would embark on public educational programme to encourage the people to seek regular medical examinations to know their health status.

He appealed to Government to consider the promotion of health as a critical area to improve the human resource of the country for national development.
