Accra, May 23, GNA - Dr Paul Sekyere, Chief Executive Officer of MDS-Lancet Laboratories Ghana Limited, has stressed the need for proper diagnoses of hepatitis disease. He said this would ensure that the right medication was prescribed to heal patients. He was speaking at a forum in Accra organised by MDS-Lancet Laboratories Ghana Limited to mark this year's Hepatitis Day, which fell on last Wednesday.

The forum, which was attended by over 40 medical specialists from the National Hepatitis Society of Ghana and senior laboratory managers, discussed the spread of the deadly liver inflammatory disease and what to do to curb its spread.

Dr Sekyere said the hepatitis disease existed in different forms; hepatitis B, C, D up to H and which affected people depending on their place of residence on earth. He said this underscored the need for proper diagnosis to ensure proper treatment. He expressed worry over the indiscriminate setting up of medical laboratories in the country and called for standard measures to regulate the operations of such laboratories. He said hepatitis B was fast-spreading in Ghana adding that the country now had a prevalence rate of approximately 20 per cent. Members of the forum called for regulation of operations of medical laboratories in the country.
