The Tolon District Health Directorate has taken delivery of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to support its fight against the COVID-19 in the area.

The PPE, worth GH¢16,778, included alcohol-based hand sanitizers, examination gloves, liquid soap, veronica buckets, and surgical nose masks.

They were donated by the implementing partners of the Empowerment for Life (E4L) Programme, which included the Ghana Developing Communities Association (GDCA), and YEFL-Ghana with funding support from Tzedek, a charity organization based in the United Kingdom.

Mr Osman Abdel-Rahman, Executive Director of GDCA, handed over the items to Hajia Balchisu Yakubu, District Chief Executive for Tolon, who also handed them over to the Tolon District Director of Health at Tolon on Thursday.

Mr Abdel-Rahman said the implementing partners of the E4L Programme recognised the health challenges the outbreak of COVID-19 posed to the people of the district hence the support.

He appealed to the District Health Directorate to ensure that communities, where the E4L Programme was being implemented in the district, were included in the distribution of the PPE.

Hajia Yakubu said the items had come at the right time, especially when the area also recorded one case of COVID-19, and commended the E4L Programme partners for their continued support towards the development of the area.

She gave the assurance that the Assembly would continue to do its best to support the District Health Directorate in its surveillance activities to trace suspected cases of the disease for testing and adequate medical care if they tested positive.

Madam Joana Quarcoo, Tolon District Director of Health said even though there were challenges in terms of adequate resources, the District Health Directorate was determined in its fight to curb the spread of the disease in the area.

Madam Quarcoo said the Health Directorate was using Simli Radio, a local radio station at neighbouring Kumbungu District, to educate the people on the disease, adding that surveillance efforts were also ongoing to pick cases of the disease in the area.
