‘Cosmetologists and beauticians must seek guidance’

Professor Edmund N. Delle, Chief Physician and Consultant Dermatologist, Rabito Clinic, has advised cosmetologists and beauticians to seek guidance and education from dermatologists on chemicals and other products they use for their clients.

He said most of the creams used by cosmetologists and beauticians contain strong chemicals like mercury and lead which are harmful to the skin and kidney. Bleaching substances damages the skin and cancer of the skin results, Prof Delle said at a news conference in Accra to launch 40th anniversary of Rabito Clinic.

Speaking on the theme: “40 Years of Quality and Affordable Healthcare in Ghana”, Mr Delle observed that in 1974, the first branch of Rabito clinic was established in Accra with the vision of becoming the leading private healthcare provider inside and outside the country through the provision of high quality healthcare services.

“To this, we meant meeting the total health needs of our clients in the West –African Sub-Region at affordable but competitive prices. “And this vision I can confidently say we have largely achieved at 40 at least in Ghana with our prime focus now being the establishment of overseas branches of Rabito Clinic”, he said.

He said: “Rabito Clinic remains committed to its objective of developing a well-trained and dedicated medical staff with proper orientation towards providing total healthcare with special emphasis in the area of dermatology.”

The Professor of dermatology noted that from a humble beginning in 1974, the clinic had become the number one referral centre for dermatology related cases in Ghana, adding that “On daily basis the team including himself trekked the length and breadth of the country administering healthcare to the deprived”.

According to him the clinic which was named after his academic mentor Professor Calogero Rabito who was the Director of the Dermatology clinic in University of Padua comes with 16 active branches with regional distributions and 180 workers from various professions and disciplines. This helped to promote quality healthcare services not only in Ghana but the world at large in years to come.
