Medical Doctors working at Dormaa-Ahenkro in the Dormaa Central Municipality of the Brong-Ahafo Region have refused to join the industrial strike by the public sector Doctors of the Ghana Medical Association (GMA).

The Doctors did not join their public sector colleagues to withdraw emergency and Out-Patient Department (OPD) services, since they operate under the Christian Health Association of Ghana (CHAG) and Society of Private, Medical and Dental Practitioners (SPMDPs).

When the Ghana News Agency (GNA), visited some health facilities in the Municipality on Wednesday, doctors, nurses and other para-medics were all at post, busily attending to patients.

At the Dormaa Presbyterian Hospital, Dr. Dery Zapklah Emmanuel, Acting Medical Superintendent said doctors at the Hospital had not withdrawn their services because they were working as members of CHAG, despite that CHAG is a member of GMA, he added.

Dr Michael Sefa, Medical Officer in-charge of Ohenewa Memorial Clinic, stated that medical practitioners in that facility belonged to the SPMDPs, but added, however, that they decided not to join the GMA because his hospital is a private entity.
