Indications are that doctors in the three public health institutions in Ho are at work on Monday despite an industrial action scheduled to start today (Monday).

The Ghana Medical Association (GMA) declared the action over what it said were anomalies in the migration of its members onto the Single Spine Salary Scale (SSS).

Doctors were present at the health facilities the Ghana News Agency (GNA) visited on Monday morning.

They are the Ho Municipal Hospital, Ho Polyclinic and the Volta Regional Hospital.

Patients seen with drugs coming out of the facilities told the GNA they had indeed seen doctors for their prescriptions.

At the Volta Regional Hospital, a patient said she had been told some doctors were not at post yet but it was business as usual on Monday with the Out-Patients’ Department bustling with activity.

At the Ho Polyclinic, some health workers confirmed to the GNA that doctors were at post and had been seeing patients.

The Volta Regional Division of the GMA in a statement copied to the media last week said it was in support of the industrial action declared by its National Executive Council.

The GMA was billed to withdraw services partially on Monday, seeing only emergency cases and in-patients, but with hints of extending the work stoppage to cover other services if not satisfied with responses to their grievances.
