The Management of the Eastern Regional Hospital in Koforidua has indefinitely suspended all non-emergency surgeries due to coronavirus outbreak in the Country.
Management of the facility says it will attend to only emergency surgeries.
A statement issued by the Hospital and signed by the Acting Medical Director, Dr Cardinal Newton stated that “as part of measures to contain the spread of the coronavirus (Covid-19) the management of the Eastern Regional hospital has adopted the following;
1.Surgeries: The Regional Hospital will attend only to emergencies. All Selective surgeries are on hold until further notice.
2.Visitors: Visitors are limited to two persons per patient, however, due to the nature of the wards, one person would be permitted to visit at a time. Visiting time remains unchanged.
According to the Acting Medical Director of the hospital, Dr Cardinal Newton, the staff of the hospital have been oriented and morale boosted in readiness to effectively handle Covid-19 cases should be recorded in the region.
The Eastern Regional Directorate of the Ghana Health Service has meanwhile said, 15 suspected cases of Covid-19 recorded in the region have tested negative. However, contact tracing is ongoing whilst the results of four suspected cases were yet to be ready.
Ghana has recorded 141 confirmed cases of coronavirus with five (5) fatalities as of March 28, 2020.
