Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital left in deplorable state

The Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital in Sekond-Tarkoradi, Western region is currently in a very deplorable state which hinders proper health delivery. The facility lacks adequate wards to contain patients, a situation which means many people who visit have no choice than to sleep on the floor.

The hospital lacks health equipment needed for its smooth-running with problems associated with acute water shortage.

Currently, the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital is structured to be serve the people of the Western region but its current state means makes that impossible.

The hospital buildings are unpainted, with patients lying on the corridors as a result of the lack of infrastructure at the hospital.

This adds to the general deplorable nature of some of the major health facilities across the country. Earlier this year, it was revealed that the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital is still without an MRI machine due to certain reasons.

The Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital has also faced its own challenges in recent years, as far as health delivery is concerned. In 2016, a documentary by Joy News titled “Next to die” highlighted the predicaments of mothers and newborn babies at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in the Ashanti Region.

It brought to light the harrowing experience of mothers and newborn babies who lost their lives because of a lack of adequate facilities at the hospital. The situation was so bad that some mothers laid on the floor with their babies because the KATH lacked a proper mother and baby care unit.

The case of the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital is currently no different, as patients battle for space and quality health delivery.
