The Dorothy’s Hope Foundation has once again championed the fight against breast cancer through its annual “Eye for Cancer” awareness event, now in its 11th edition.
The initiative, which took off from the Cantonments Post Office in Accra at 6:00 am on October 11, 2025, brought together hundreds of participants for a health-focused walk, free breast and general health screening and a blood donation drive to support breast cancer patients.
The Eye for Cancer initiative aims to encourage early detection, raise awareness and provide crucial support to individuals battling breast cancer.
Participants received free breast cancer screenings and other medical checks at the end point of the walk.
In addition, a blood drive was organized to aid patients undergoing cancer treatment who often require blood transfusions during chemotherapy.
Speaking at the event, Dorothy Amuah Niamkey, Founder of the Dorothy’s Hope Foundation and herself a breast cancer survivor, shared her personal journey and the motivation behind her advocacy.
“If you’re unfortunately diagnosed with the disease, we act as a support system,” she explained.

“We support patients mentally and emotionally, and where possible, financially. We have a survivors’ network that visits hospitals to encourage and counsel newly diagnosed patients, sharing their own experiences and helping them understand what to expect through chemotherapy and radiotherapy.”
She added that she personally volunteers at hospitals regularly to mentor and comfort patients navigating the difficult stages of breast cancer treatment.
Over the years, Dorothy has become a beacon of hope for many women and families affected by breast cancer in Ghana.
