The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) on Monday cautioned the public about the distribution and sale of fake/counterfeit Vermox tablets on the Ghanaian market.
The FDA, through its Post Market Surveillance with the assistance of Jassen Cilag, the market authorisation holder of Vermox tablets, found batches of fake or counterfeit Vermox tablets in some shops in the Greater Accra, Ashanti and Western Regions.
Laboratory analysis revealed that the said batches contained no active ingredients, a statement signed by the Chief Executive Officer, Hudu Mogtari and copied to the GNA said.
Vermox tablets are used for the treatment of worm infestations.
The FDA said the fake or counterfeit Vermox tablets have the following batch numbers:DALOX00, CIL8J01, DBL4G01 ,DHL2Z00,and BU1V01
It asked the public to take note that the fake/counterfeit Vermox tablets were found in the following shops:

The statement said pharmacies, licensed chemical shops, hospitals, clinics and all other health facilities having stocks of Vermox with the listed batch numbers are advised to immediately handover those products to any of the FDA offices countrywide.
Furthermore, the public especially Pharmacies, Chemical Shops, Hospitals and Clinics and other Healthcare Facilities are hereby cautioned against buying medicines from drug peddlers and other dubious sources, because medicines purchased from these sources could be fake or counterfeit.
