Family Health University College holds matriculation and graduation programmes

The Family Health University College has jointly held a graduation and matriculation programmes for students in various levels and Departments in Accra.

Ten Medical school graduates; made up of seven men and three females graduated from the College’s Medical school, while 19 in the graduate class were matriculated, with 33 others matriculating from the Regular Class.

Nine others matriculated for the Diploma in General Nursing (intake III), eight in Diploma in General Midwifery (intake III) and 62 others matriculated in Nurse Assistant Clinical.

Addressing the programme, Dr Nsiah Asare, Special Presidential Advisor on health commended the staff and Management of the Medical College for their tremendous efforts in training more personnel to complement the efforts of government.

He said government would soon institute electronic placement for Nurses and other paramedical staff adding that its introduction would not have any human manipulations.

Dr Asare, who is also a former Director General of Ghana Health Service gave the assurance that more Nurses including; those from the Private Training schools would be employed and urged the graduates to put whatever they learnt into practice by providing quality health care to all Ghanaians irrespective of their geographical locations.

He advised the Medical students and Nurses to accept postings to the rural areas in order to gain maximum experience as the concentration in major cities and urban areas would not offer them challenges to take up higher responsibilities.

“Act with professionalism and enthusiasm in order to make a change in the lives of people you meet in the line of your duties, “Dr Asare advised.

Dr Asare advised the graduates against seeking greener pasture outside the country, but rather urged them to stay back and contribute their quota towards the growth and development of the country.

Professor Ebenezer Oduro Owusu, Vice Chancellor of the University of Ghana in a speech read on his behalf congratulated the College, Council, faculty, staff and management for their efforts at uplifting the image of the premier Private Medical School to higher heights.

He urged them to put up innovations and initiatives that would enable their students to help in controlling emergency and re-emerging diseases in the country and beyond.

Professor E.Y Kwawukume, Founder and President of the Family Health University College said the College had introduced a Dialysis centre, Cardio-Thoracic Centre with well-equipped Intensive Care Unit, a larger Neo-Natal Intensive Unit and a larger and well-equipped emergency unit to facilitate the learning of students and take care of their numerous patients.

He said Hostel facilities were also expanded with the installation of a water filtration system to avoid water shortage in school and reclaimed parts of the sea for recreational purposes.

He said the College has also upgraded the Nursing and Midwifery school to run a degree programme and initiated measures to launch an endowment fund for brilliant, but needy students as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility.

Mr Simon Sackitey who received 11 out of the 12 available awards was named the overall best student of the Bsc Science 2019 Special Awards.
