Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Member of Parliament for Abura-Asebu-Kwamankese, has commissioned a National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) satellite office at Moree to ease healthcare access for residents and surrounding communities.
The ceremony held last Saturday climaxed a week-long special registration exercise that recorded 2,672 new and renewed memberships.
Speaking at the event, Edward Mensah, District Manager of the NHIS, said the facility was a direct response to the difficulties faced by residents of Moree, Brafoyaw, Amasema, and Nenkwado.
“Our people, including the elderly, pregnant women, and the vulnerable, have had to travel long distances to Abura Dunkwa just to register, renew membership, or replace lost NHIS cards,” he explained.
“This journey is not only a financial burden but also a physical deterrent to seeking essential healthcare.”
He added: “This satellite office will increase NHIS enrollment and healthcare access, saving constituents the time and money spent commuting to the district office.”
Commissioning the facility, Kwakye Ofosu, who doubles as the Minister of Government Communications and Spokesperson, noted that the new office would significantly reduce the stress regularly endured by residents of the communities in accessing NHIS services.
“The provision of this office at Moree will ease the difficulties our people face in registering, renewing, or replacing their NHIS cards,” he stated.
“It is a major step in improving healthcare service delivery for Moree and its surrounding communities.”
He emphasised that the new NHIS office is expected to cut transportation expenses for residents and strengthen healthcare access across the Abura-Asebu-Kwamankese district.
